The Position: The Payroll Manager oversees all payroll operations, ensuring accurate and timely compensation in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The role maintains payroll systems, administers time and attendance platforms, manages payroll reporting, and partners with People & Culture and Finance to support compensation activities, audits, tax filings, and internal controls. The position serves as the primary resource for payroll inquiries, system troubleshooting, and process improvements while ensuring secure, compliant management of all payroll data.

The Location: Hybrid combining working from home, and onsite in White River Junction VT 2-4 days per month. Ideal candidates will be located within a 2-hour drive of our offices.
The Pay: $80,000 to $92,000 annual salary; commensurate with experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end biweekly payroll processing, including data validation, reconciliation, submission, Paid Time Off (PTO)program, and garnishments for regular and special pay cycles.
- Maintain payroll systems and time & attendance platforms; configure earnings/deduction codes and tax profiles.
- Serve as the primary contact for payroll inquiries, system troubleshooting, and issue resolution.
- Reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts, prepare payroll accruals, and support month-end close activities.
- Prepare, analyze, and distribute payroll reports for internal stakeholders and auditors; maintain payroll metrics and dashboards.
- Ensure accurate and compliant payroll tax processing and reporting, including quarterly and annual filings (e.g., W-2s).
- Partner with People & Culture and Finance on employment changes, compensation reporting, and audit readiness.
- Drive continuous improvement by evaluating and implementing payroll technologies, upgrades, and process efficiencies.
- Ensure secure handling and retention of payroll data in accordance with privacy laws and company policies.
- Manage relationships with payroll vendors, including payroll systems providers, tax filing services, and related platforms.
Experience and Education
- Degree in Finance, Business, Human Resources or a related field preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive professional experience, including full-cycle payroll processing and process ownership
- Experience with multi-state payroll and payroll tax compliance including filings, reconciliations and year-end processing
- Experience maintaining payroll controls, supporting audits and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
- Working knowledge of HRIS and payroll systems (ADP payroll systems strongly preferred)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Demonstrated ability to manage deadlines, ensure accuracy, maintain confidentiality and drive payroll processes improvements
